Aliet Discovers her Numbers (Aliet) is a holistic mathematics assessment program emerging from a partnership with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey, Sprig Learning, and the John Jerome Paul Chair for Equity in Mathematics Education.
Aliet includes a holistic mathematics assessment app done on an iPad combined with activities that support learning within the classroom and at home. Teachers are provided with a large Aliet bear puppet, smaller hand puppets and finger puppets of all the characters, and a kit of math tools and manipulatives including spinners, dice, counters, ten frames, number paths, and more to support integration of math activities in their classrooms. The Role of the JJP Chair was to support design, development and implementation of the program, drawing from ongoing research on transforming mathematics education for Mi’kmaw learners.
